GOSPEL MUSICIANS: PUSHED TO THE WALL, PUSHED INTO HELL

Yes I know you were expecting the usual "today in music history" post. That continues tomorrow Monday.Sure enough, most of us are church musicians/instrumentalists so I decided to take some time off the normal to talk about this inasmuch as the knowledge of music history is VERY IMPORTANT to all of us (the essence of it all is to learn our lessons from their mistakes, get challenged by their achievements and also for knowledge sake etc.)

Gospel music is a genre that is often despised by the music folk. Most record labels will never sign a gospel artist. Some countless people have also dumped it for secular music which guarantees more fame and fortune. But in spite of this despising,it is also worthy to note that the great names you hear in the secular world from the time of Elvis Presley (Assemblies of God),down to Beyonce (Baptist Church) ALL started off as gospel acts. These used the choir stands of their respective churches as their grooming grounds, were discovered by the church but in most cases taken for granted or maltreated by their pastors or leaders (this is still the case today). Then in a bid to fulfil their God-given dream step out of the church frustrated, until a record label out there entices them with that mouth watering offer that would change their lives forever. The world ends up reaping the.harvest of what the Church produced, all because the talent was mismanaged.A sheep is lost from the fold. The painful part remains that the church can do nothing when they hear of this than to judge him/her.

Gospel music has suffered a great deal of brain drain which we must do something about.Yes most times the fault is from our spiritual leaders who push us to the wall in different ways that affect our career as gospel musicians or music ministers. So then what do we do? It's all about the Kingdom of God so do we nurse the pain of not being appreciated in our various churches at the Kingdom's expense? Do we throw away all the years of bible study, prayer meetings, hot Sunday sermons (these are investments made in us by God) to sell out to Satan just to get at the church people who used, abused or misused us as musicians? I must confess I have also been a victim of this in different places by different people. Kirk Franklin was attacked, sued to court and rumoured against by the church yet he stuck to gospel. Samsong also told a story of.how he was offered $300,000 to do a secular song in which his kind of voice was needed, after which he will be given a record deal. According to the deal,he won't call the name of Jesus or God in any of his songs. That same period was the time his church never encouraged him nor helped him but HE TURNED DOWN THE OFFER!!! Make up your mind never to sell out to the world. Make up your mind the Kingdom will not lose more musicians to the world and that it won't be you. Why would you sign a contract with the devil with your own blood knowing that after all the fame and riches hell awaits you but the blood has already shed for your redemption? I stand to be corrected, but don't you think it is better for you to be ''misused" in church than for the devil to use you propagate his message and afterwards treat you the way he treated his best son Michael Jackson before he finally died??? Think about it.
